Major Project Review
Objective
The
objective is to review a number of projects which are nearing completion, to
identify good ideas that might be employed on other projects to the benefit of our
integrated property company.
It
is not intended to be an audit, nor is it intended that the ideas should come
from non conformances raised in an audit. Any good ideas, regardless of their
derivation, are relevant to this exercise.
Introduction
This
paper looks at aiding the process of capturing good ideas that may exist within
the company. Once identified, the ideas are then prioritised in the context of the
optimum benefit to our integrated property company. A final shortlist is to be put
forward to the Australasian Executive Group as being worthy of further
consideration for widespread adoption.
Capturing ideas
Prior
to the review, the management team for each selected project should be asked to
recall significant events or ideas that might be of benefit to the company on
future projects.
A
form with the following three classifications could be used for this:
|
|
We
have this idea and we think we ought to take it further |
This
worked well and we recommend this approach for other projects |
It
was a cock up. Next time we will ensure that we do the following |

For
each idea, you should use the Project Explorer diagram below to help identify
how the proposal should be fed into future projects at the optimum stage in
their development i.e. design development, subcontractor procurement, off site
packaging etc.

For
the review, you should be able to speak to the ideas being put forward from your
own project and work with the other members of the review team to identify the
relevant merits of all the ideas being put forward.
Project tour
Each
of the projects should be visited by the review team. The host should chair a
start up meeting using the following agenda:
1
Description of project
2
Ideas from form giving background to each one
3
Questions
The
host should lead a tour of the project illustrating the ideas as the tour
proceeds.
Review
When
all the projects in the review have been visited, a review of the ideas should
be undertaken.
The
object here is to identify a shortlist of ideas that can be submitted to the Australasian
Executive Group for further consideration. Prioritising could be achieved by
voting for each idea or by allocating a score out of ten etc.
Further considerations
Knowledge
within the company can be held in a variety of ways. It will be helpful for the
review team to note whether the final outcome should-
1
Require a change in company procedures
2
Be set out in detail in a company database
3
Ensure contact names are recorded and made
available so that the idea can be explained to management teams on future
projects
